A. Founding History
Founded in 2008, Compassionate Hands for the Disabled Foundation (CHDF) is a Kenyan charitable organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and individuals with disabilities through care, rehabilitation, education, and empowerment. What began as a small outreach initiative has grown into a respected center of hope, providing holistic support and advocating for the dignity and inclusion of persons with special needs.
B. Pastor Anne Njeri — Founder & CEO
Pastor Anne Njeri is the visionary founder and Chief Executive Officer of CHDF. Driven by compassion and a commitment to serving vulnerable children with disabilities, she established the organization in 2008. Through her leadership, dedication, and advocacy, CHDF has impacted countless lives — restoring hope, dignity, and opportunities to children and families across Kenya.
She was born and raised in Korogocho as a girl with physical disabilities, supported and educated by well-wishers. She underwent surgery and walked at nine years old.
C. The 7 Core Projects at CHDF
The Compassionate Homes Project
Currently home to 120 children with disabilities. Provides safe shelter, care, nutrition, and a family-like environment for these wonderful children.
Empower Hearts Special School
Offers special needs education, life skills training, and inclusive learning support — especially for children with cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, and autism. Serves children within Compassionate Homes and those from the surrounding community.
Compassionate Empower Hearts Rehabilitation Centre
Provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and basic nursing care to improve health, mobility, and overall well-being of children. With funding, it will continue to grow into a fully-fledged community-based rehabilitation centre.
Compassionate Caregiving & Rehabilitation Training Program
Trains caregivers in disability care, basic nursing skills, and child support to improve quality care delivery — promoting professional, quality, and impactful services to the children we serve and the community at large.
Compassionate Samaritan's Purse Partnership
The active fundraising, networking, partner-formation and communication project of CHDF. Engages donors and partners on a regular basis through reporting, accounting, and fundraising strategies to meet the needs of the projects and the children.
Springs of Compassion Agribusiness Project
Strengthens sustainability and economic empowerment through farming activities that support food production, sustainability, and income generation for the foundation.
Waters Springs Project
Ensures access to clean and safe water for drinking, hygiene, and farming. Part of the Springs of Compassion agri-business, promoting sustainability and economic empowerment.
D. CHDF Goals
Short-Term Goals
- Link each of the 120 children with a sponsor to meet their education, rehabilitation, and basic care needs.
- Create structures that support the empowerment of children with special needs.
- Create an advocacy programme that highlights the rights and responsibilities of children with disabilities.
Mid-Term Goals
- Strengthen the capacity of the foundation through networking and partnerships.
- Establish systems and structures of operation within the foundation.
Long-Term Goals
- Fully establish large-scale sustainable projects.
- Expand and strengthen the projects of CHDF to serve larger communities of children with special needs across the country and beyond.
- Become a model organization that serves children with special needs.
